Red Sox 'Rolling Rally' - World Series Victory Parade, October 30, 2004

Back to Home

This duck, with MVP Manny Ramirez, elicited the loudest crowd response.

David Ortiz is probably on the other side of the duck, which was disappointing, but at least I got to see the Derek Jeter sign (below right and left). Fanning the fans' flames...

I don't mind saying that Pedro Martinez (the caped figure sitting with his back to the camera) appeared to had lost all his enthusiasm for the procession, as his mannerisms seemed repetitive and insincere, like a robot programmed to act excited.

That's pitcher Derek Lowe with the necklace. Curt Shilling and Tim Wakefield (the infamous knuckleballer) must've been on the other side of the duck.

I think this is Mark Bellhorn and Johnny Damon exhibiting polite enthusiasm.

In the tan coat is Gabe Kapler (I'm guessing) who plays back-up right field. I was definitely on the wrong side of the street for this duck.

You can see some of the more stellar relief pitchers on this duck, but I like this picture because of the guy in the red hooded sweatshirt.

He wasn't content with standing stationary to watch the parade roll by and out of his life; like many spectators, he was compelled to follow it, increasing the size of the crowd around the ducks. He looked as though he had taken massive amounts of drugs before the parade, and little fairies ordered him to tag along with the relief pitcher duck.

This was the first car in the parade.
Less notables: Adam Hyzdu, Ricky Gutierrez?

Various coaches.

I believe this duck is for former coaches and players? The ones who tried but did not succeed?

Out of curiosity, I googled some of the names and found out Butch Hobson, former Red Sox manager, was arrested for cocaine possession in Rhode Island in 1996 (here).

It was a dismal day, with continual light rain (someone actually sad "It's the Bambino's tears, washing away his curse").

I got to the Charles River early and loitered for a bit, waiting for the duck boats to hit the water. I got bored after an hour, and decided to stake out the road that duck boats use to access the river in front of the Museum of Science. The crowd was relatively light, and that's where I got the above pictures.

In the picture to the left, you can see all of the people on the banks of the Charles.

Below on the left is the Red Line train and the Boston skyline. Below on the right is a fishing boat that mobilized while I was waiting. After I took the picture, the guy waved.
