It’s Coming on Christmas

Little Boy is becoming highly suspicious of Santa Claus. Several corrupting classmates have told him the Brutal Truth about Santa… yet, he still wants to believe. I’m torn between maintaining this magical myth of childhood versus having him feel embarrassed and mad when he finds out we’ve been lying for so long.

Inevitably though, his worldview is expanding; he asks me logical questions about the logistics of Santa and I try to respond as logically as possible. “Yes, those Santas we go to see, they’re his helpers. Santa needs helpers. And yes… those beards are fake.” He accepts this. I think he internally acknowledges the Brutal Truth, but he so enjoys thinking (and talking, endlessly) about Santa… and the things that Santa is going to bring him.

Tonight, at the town holiday lighting event, there was a Mrs. Claus. This opened a whole new line of inquiry.

Christmas 2015

This Thanksgiving we went to Okemo Mountain in Vermont for the first ski of the season. No real snow, but still a nice relaxing time.

I ran the Okemo “Trot it Off” 5K on Saturday morning… and finished 3rd woman out of 113 woman! The course was marked wrong and, according to my watch, only 2.8 miles. So I finished in 20:06, but I do not consider that a new 5K PR because of the short course. (I do think I would have caught #2 female if I had more distance, as the last part of the race was uphill and I was gaining on her.) I got a nifty wooden plaque. It was a nice way to top off the season… now, cue the snow and ice, I’m ready for some off season.
